Don’t know where to start? Affordable Disney family vacations begin with good planning.

Disney offers free Disney vacation planning DVDs. Your planning DVD will give you an amazing tour of Disney’s theme parks, water parks, and hotels.

You’ll also learn about tips for planning affordable Disney family vacations, Disney World restaurants, and Disneyland restaurants. This is a great way to get comprehensive information for your Disney vacation planning.

When you're ready to begin planning, choose your Disneyland location and you're off to a great start.

Bring a backpack filled with anything and everything you could need!

Even though outside food and drinks are not allowed (bottled water is OK), you can pack anything else!

Include a change of clothes for little ones (or yourself), hand sanitizer, baby wipes, sunscreen, tissues, hats, paperback books (you never know when you’ll be waiting alone), your Disneyland map, and anything else you think might be useful during your visit.

Take in the sights while riding the Disneyland tram to the park entrance.

The Disneyland tram is where your adventure begins.  Think there's not much to see while you ride?

You might be surprised.

Start looking for hidden Mickeys (if you haven't already begun looking) and see how many you find during your visit.  You'll spy Mickeys in archetecture, landscaping, paintings, and many other places throughout the park.

Take a peek at the behind-the-scenes stuff you'll pass by.  You might spot a giant Christmas tree or your favorite characters taking a stroll!

Pack a cooler of food and keep it in your car or – if it’s small enough – in a locker outside the theme park.

If you can pack a large cooler, you can leave it in the car. Get your hand stamped at lunchtime and head to your car to retrieve your packed food and eat it in the park’s picnic area (or hang at the car and tailgate!)

IMPORTANT: Remember your hand stamp when leaving the park!

Plan on Saving Money

One tip for saving big money is to begin planning your vacation early.  You planning should start a minimum of six months before your visit.  The earlier, the better.

Look into Disney vacation packages.  A vacation package might include accomodation, transportation, dining, theme park tickets and special offers.  Build your vacation package so you get the extras you want, and always do your research to find out about discounts and special offers.

Save money on souvenirs by first, planning what you want to buy and second, purchasing low-cost items like magnets, pens, postcards, keychains, and even souvenir drink cups.  To get your money's worth, buy items you can use long after you've left the park.
